I woke up this morning already turning a question over in my head.
I got my son up and out the door for school, backpack, shoes, the familiar morning shuffle. The drive through town to the school district and back was short and oddly peaceful. I parked the truck, took a deep breath, then went back inside. I let the dog out to pee, paused again, and breathed.
The day hadn’t really started yet, and somehow, that felt like a small gift.

Back in the kitchen, I made myself a tuna melt using leftover tuna salad from earlier in the week. The recipe was inspired by one I found on No Crumbs Left, and honestly, it’s worth repeating. Comfort food that still feels intentional.
Here’s a simplified recipe if you want to give it a try.
Corey’s Weeknight Tuna Melt
Crumble well drained tuna in a bowl and mix with finely chopped celery, onion, chives, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper, and giardiniera until creamy. Use two good pieces of fresh bread, add two generous scoops of tuna, and top with the cheese of your choice, I used Swiss and Gruyere. Butter the outer sides of the bread, I used mayonaise and send it to a cast iron skillet or the air fryer until golden, charred, and melty. Slice, breathe it in for a second, and enjoy while it’s hot and unapologetically toasty.
Oh, and of course I added a gaggle full of fresh berries on the side. Is gaggle even a word? It is today.

Then it was upstairs to the office. Answered emails, scheduled a few upcoming medical appointments, and tried to stay organized without overthinking it. Myles, my schnauzer, helped me eat my sandwich, which immediately caused him to nap. That nap somehow made me want to nap too.
Does anyone else’s dog do that? How do they make everything feel so cozy and sleepy?

I made a quick journal entry, binged a couple of youtube videos, nothing deep. Just a list of foods I want to try this month. We’ve been slowly pulling ourselves away from fast food and making more health-conscious choices. Slow being the key word.
Side note, does anyone know where I can get a fresh halibut filet in Northern Michigan? Asking for future me.

This week has been full. Busy. Reflective. Burns are healing. Nervous system is regulating. I’m really glad I didn’t start the day by reading the news. It’s a small choice, but it felt like a win.
The little things add up to something bigger. I think that’s the takeaway this week. Don’t push too hard. Things will change.
I hope you found a safe space this week to notice the small shifts in your own world.
May I ask…
What’s one small choice you made this week that felt like a win? Is there a food or habit you’re slowly reintroducing with more intention? Does your pet also have the power to shut the whole house down for a nap?
