I realized recently that I have one of those movie gaps. The kind that makes people pause and say, wait, you haven’t seen that? For me, it was Sleepless in Seattle. I know. I’m a Tom Hanks fan, always have been, which somehow makes this more confusing.

Add to that the fact that I’d never seen a Meg Ryan movie either, and suddenly this felt like a small cultural blind spot I needed to address.
With more streaming subscriptions than I care to admit, I decided to finally watch it over the weekend. And it was good.
Genuinely good. Maybe not life changing in the way people hyped it up to me for years, but warm, charming, and very much a classic. It has that cozy 90s romance energy that feels almost nostalgic now, even if you’re watching it for the first time.
Here’s my slightly controversial take. Meg Ryan played the role well, she really did, but I don’t think I’m a huge fan.

I can already hear the collective gasp. This isn’t hate, it’s just personal taste. Still, I completely understand why this movie holds such a special place for so many people.
Now I’m curious…
What’s the movie you haven’t seen but feel like you’re supposed to have seen by now? The one people quote casually, as if it’s part of a shared language. Maybe this is the weekend we all finally watch those movies, form our own opinions, and quietly admit, okay, I get it. Or maybe we don’t. Either way, it feels oddly satisfying to cross one off the list.
