How is everyone doing lately? Seriously. What are you up to this weekend? Are you staying in, cleaning the apartment while pretending one candle changes your entire life, taking a spontaneous road trip, calling an old friend back, or just trying to survive another week with your sanity mostly intact?

Me? I’ve been daydreaming about the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan again. There’s something about lighthouse towns that makes life feel quieter in the best possible way. Maybe it’s the endless water, the smell of pine trees mixed with lake air, or the fact that standing near a lighthouse immediately makes you feel like the main character in a thoughtful indie film.

If you ever need a weekend that softens your nervous system a little, the UP is genuinely one of the prettiest places you can disappear into for a couple days.

A few places that always feel magical to me:

Crisp Point Lighthouse feels dramatic and almost cinematic once you finally reach it. The drive alone feels like part of the experience.

Big Bay Point Lighthouse has this mysterious, quiet energy to it that makes you want to sit and think for a while.

Near Paradise, Whitefish Point Light Station is one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever visited. Lake Superior always humbles me a little.

And if you make your way toward Munising, Grand Island East Channel Light at sunset honestly looks unreal.

Up in Copper Harbor, Copper Harbor Lighthouse reminds you just how beautiful and untouched parts of Michigan still are.

And because every road trip deserves food that becomes part of the memory:

Dinner at The Fitz at Fitzgerald’s with lake views and cozy lighting feels like something out of a Nancy Meyers movie.

Karl’s Cuisine, Winery & Brewery somehow makes comfort food taste even better after being in the car all day.

I also love The Vierling Restaurant because it has that classic Upper Peninsula charm that never feels forced.

Also, this is your reminder to walk the dog a little longer than usual this weekend.

Listen to the loudest rock song you can find with the windows down.

I’ve randomly been listening to Wolfmother lately and forgot how fun it is to hear music that sounds slightly dangerous while buying iced coffee and minding your business.

Eat the extra ice cream bar. ( My absolute favorite ice cream spot. )

Text the person you keep thinking about.

Stay out a little later than planned.

Watch the sunset if you can.

And wherever this weekend finds you, I hope it feels soft, sweet, and a little bit freeing.
